Reverse engineering tool is a command line Java utility. Clicking on it will not work at all. We're working on making it more user friendly, esp. for Windows users. For some reason Java is not a first class citizen on Windows :(.
If you want use this tool, you'll need property configured Java Runtime.
2. Open Command prompt and call 'java' program. It will should prints a 'usage' info. If not please setup PATH environment variable (google: java windows path)

Yes, it is possible. There is no association between tables and subject areas in the XML per se. Association is based on position and size of subject areas and tables. Association rule is "rectangle of the table must be inside of rectangle of subject area". Since we do not provide command line tools to examine and validate XML files I think it will be easier to do it in Vertabelo.
